Kecak Fire Dance at Uluwatu Temple - Bali, Indonesia
While in Bali we attended a Kecak Fire Dance at the Uluwatu temple, which is set on a dramatic yet serene cliff at the south of the island.
The men seated in a circle around the floor are performing a physically demanding chant while creating a literal stage with their bodies. Together with the performers, the dramatization displayed 5 parts of the Hindu epic, Ramayana. The crowd favorite had to be Hanuman running all through the crowd (taking selfies with audience members!) and ending with his wild escape from a ring of fire!
The dancers and the chanting men, who sang for nearly two hours straight, provided a surprisingly impressive performance for being such a touristed event. It was especially beautiful with the stunning Bali sunset in the background.
